This album is one of the greatest albums of the year. Peace D Someone tell J to get premier to do more than one track on anymore albums Lyrics on this album was respectful but, beats not up to par with the presentation of the american ganster. Cant remember which album but has to be the best track every made Im so ghetto was the name of the track. Success, fallin, where the best.I would tell Jay Z in person you want real representation with beats you have to go to DJ PREMIER. With all due respect the beats where 3 out of 10.
So all-in-all, if you buy the cd, you might just end up listening to it on repeat, just might. The production was a breath of fresh air, meaning it was what you heard on most hip-hop albums. So The Black Album stands the test of time astonishingly well for a contemporara Rap Record. Already 3 years ago and no new Jay-Z record in the stores.
Wordplay on the album was outstanding as usual, this time tho was more storytelling than usual, which was well appreciated since the stories keep you giving your full attention. Maybe a few less songs about himself would have made The Black Album even greater, but hey it's his Party and he decided what he wanted to rap about. Jay-Z gives you an amazing view into the rise and fall of the drug dealer/American Gangster. Its a period piece, and thats what he represented, for the real hip hop fan, J told story after story on this album, for the casual fan he dropped roc boys,to let you know he can still do it. Look it may have not been his best work, but it still did the job. Jiggas flows and wordplay reaches here the maximum.GREAT ALBUM,IN THE SAME LEVEL AS REASONABLE DOUBT. I admit that Jay-z is my favorite rapper and he proves with this album why I keep coming back. You have to be amazed that both versions speak to the man.Im not an advid rap fan, but I dabble and this CD blew my mind. While the album track here floats on Kanye West’s fantastic production, and as much as I adore its old school feel, I feel this track pales in comparison to the mixtape/other official version created by nu metal hybrids Linkin Park’s brilliant mash-up with their own “Numb” that appeared on Collision Course. A song like “Encore” feels lighter simply because he feels freer. The album therefore feels a little odd in a way. Fortunately, he didn’t ( later albums are equally magnificent). The Black Album at the time was meant to be the end of the man as performer. It’s a hodgepodge, but it’s hodgepodge that works on every level. Then there are samples from Mountain, Madonna, and Billy Squier. The album samples more standard fare like the Chi-Lites and MFSB, reggae artist John Holt, and even Jay himself. It’s takes a special type of rapper to pull it off, and Hova doesn’t let you forget it. He used a different producer on every track, allowing for each to lay down a unique signature, and ultimately show Jay-Z can rap over anything. While I can accept any one of them as being called his finest moment, there is something about the jigsaw nature of The Black Album that appeals to me.
Shawn Carter.īoth musically and verbally literate, he has created some of the greatest hip hop albums in history. And sitting above it all is the true lyrical king of all, Mr. Featured peformers: Jay-Z (executive producer), Damon Dash (executive producer), Kareem Burke (executive producer), Kyambo Joshua (director), Darcell Lawrence (director), Tony Dawsey. Rated 29 in the best albums of 2003, and 1784 of all-time album. Hip hop came of age in the early 1990s, but it’s true blood masterpieces came a decade later. Released 14 November 2003 on Roc-A-Fella (catalog no. But it wasn’t until much, much later, as we both approached our early twenties, where we found our true soulful voices. There were moments of sweetness, moments of pain, and a lot of fantastic music. We once trawled disco beats before discovering life was hard and listening to new music that felt as alienated and angry as we were. Hip hop and I were born around the same time.
